Bangalore BBMP proposes new dog‑ownership rules limiting households to three pets

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has announced preparations to roll out new regulations governing dog ownership in Bangalore. The proposed framework aims to formalise pet management across the city and ensure public health safety.
Under the draft rules, dog owners would be required to obtain an annual licence, register each animal with the municipal authority, implant a microchip for identification and ensure that every dog receives a rabies vaccination. These measures are intended to create a traceable database of pets and curb the spread of zoonotic diseases.
Additionally, the proposal limits the number of dogs that can be kept in a single household to a maximum of three, a step the BBMP says will help control stray populations and reduce conflicts in residential areas.
