The Indian Railways has completed electrification of all routes in Assam, promising faster and cleaner train services for passengers across the state.
The Ministry of Railways announced that the entire railway network in Assam is now 100% electrified. The project, which began several years ago, involved installing overhead electric lines, upgrading signaling systems and converting diesel locomotives to electric ones on major routes.
Electrification is expected to cut travel time on several long‑distance services, reduce fuel costs and lower carbon emissions. Passengers will benefit from smoother rides and potentially lower ticket prices as operational expenses decline.
