Assam Minister Saikia warns of safety risks in Siang mega project, seeks President's intervention

Assam's water resources minister, Saikia, raised alarm over the Siang mega project, describing it as a potential safety hazard for the state. He said the large‑scale scheme, which involves extensive river engineering, could pose serious risks if not properly managed.

Saikia cautioned that the project's design and execution might threaten downstream communities, infrastructure and ecological balance. He urged that comprehensive risk assessments be carried out before any further work proceeds.

The minister appealed to the President of India to intervene, seeking a high‑level review of the project's clearances and safety protocols. He emphasized that presidential oversight could ensure that the project adheres to national safety standards and protects public interest.
