A female tiger named Buxa was captured in Assam after moving from its usual habitat into the Raimona wildlife reserve for exploration.
Forest officials in Assam reported the capture of a lone female tiger, identified as Buxa, after it crossed into the Raimona wildlife reserve. The animal was tranquilised by a team of wildlife guards following a coordinated operation to ensure both its safety and that of nearby villagers.
The tigress is believed to have entered the reserve as part of a natural habitat exploration, a behavior observed when tigers seek new territories or prey-rich areas. Raimona, located in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, shares ecological corridors with neighboring protected zones, allowing such movements.
Authorities have now relocated Buxa back to a suitable area within its original range, where ongoing monitoring will track her health and movements. The incident underscores the importance of maintaining connectivity between forest fragments to support tiger conservation.
Wildlife experts emphasized that the swift response prevented potential human‑wildlife conflict and highlighted the effectiveness of Assam's tiger management protocols.
