Chief Minister Pema Khandu said the state government has not forced the Siang dam project and invited protestors to discuss their concerns.

Protests have intensified in Arunachal Pradesh over the proposed Siang river dam, with local groups accusing the state administration of imposing the project without adequate consultation. Demonstrators have staged sit‑ins and road blockades, demanding a halt to construction until their grievances are addressed.

In a press briefing, Chief Minister Pema Khandu categorically denied any coercion by his government. He asserted that the dam proposal follows standard regulatory procedures and that no party has been forced to endorse it. Khandu emphasized that the administration is open to dialogue and has extended an invitation to protest leaders for direct talks.

The CM said the upcoming discussions will focus on environmental safeguards, compensation for affected communities, and the overall feasibility of the project. He urged all stakeholders to engage constructively, stressing that a transparent process is essential for the region’s development and ecological balance.
