The Andhra Pradesh government aims to install 7.5 lakh smart streetlights across the state by March 2027, boosting energy efficiency and public safety.

The state government of Andhra Pradesh has announced an ambitious plan to roll out 750,000 smart streetlights by the end of March 2027. The initiative is part of a broader effort to modernise urban infrastructure, reduce power consumption and improve illumination quality in both cities and rural areas.

The smart lamps will be equipped with sensors and remote‑management capabilities, allowing authorities to monitor performance, adjust brightness based on traffic flow and detect faults instantly. Officials expect the technology to cut electricity costs and lower maintenance expenses compared with conventional lighting.

Funding for the project is slated to come from a combination of state budget allocations and central‑government schemes promoting smart‑city development. Installation is expected to begin in the coming months, with priority given to high‑traffic corridors and areas with frequent power outages.

The rollout aligns with Andhra Pradesh's commitment to sustainable development and its target to become a leading smart‑city hub in South India. Once completed, the network will provide a more reliable lighting system for commuters, pedestrians and businesses across the state.
