AIIMS Jodhpur resident doctors end strike after executive director’s removal and demand settlement

Resident doctors at AIIMS Jodhpur called off their strike after the Ministry of Health agreed to their demands and removed Executive Director Dr. Govardhan Datt Puri, transferring him to Delhi.
The resident doctors at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jodhpur announced the end of their week‑long strike on Wednesday. The decision came after the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare accepted the doctors' primary demands, which included better working conditions and timely recruitment.
In a parallel administrative move, the ministry removed Executive Director Dr. Govardhan Datt Puri from his post at AIIMS Jodhpur. He has been reassigned to a role in Delhi, a step the government says aims to restore confidence among the medical staff.
Hospital officials said normal services have resumed, and patients who were deferred during the protest are being attended to. The ministry reiterated its commitment to address systemic issues in AIIMS institutions across the country.
The strike, which began as a protest against perceived administrative neglect, had disrupted outpatient and elective procedures. With the settlement, the institute expects to return to full operational capacity in the coming days.
