Man Singh Singraoul, accused in the Satyam Shukla murder, was released on bail in Satna and shortly after rode a bullock cart smoking, prompting criticism of police response.

The murder of Satyam Shukla in Satna, Madhya Pradesh, remains a high‑profile case a year after the crime. The principal accused, Man Singh Singraoul, also known as Betu, had been lodged in jail pending trial.

Earlier this week the court granted Singraoul bail, allowing him to leave custody. Within hours of his release, witnesses reported that he mounted a bullock‑drawn cart, lit a cigarette and rode through the town in a conspicuous display of confidence.

The incident quickly drew public attention, with many residents questioning how a person charged with murder could so openly flaunt his freedom. Local media captured the scene, noting the accused’s flamboyant behavior as a "show of power."

Police officials admitted that despite several hours of effort, they were unable to locate the accused after the display, leading to criticism of their investigative approach and calls for a more rigorous follow‑up.
