Police in Guwahati shot and killed Ghanakanta Gogoi, the main accused in the recent hotel shooting case, as he tried to flee during a raid.
Guwahati police opened fire on Ghanakanta Gogoi on Tuesday, killing him as he attempted to escape during a raid linked to the ongoing hotel shooting investigation. The operation took place in the city’s central area where authorities had surrounded the suspect after gathering intelligence about his whereabouts.
Gogoi, identified as the prime accused in the Guwahati hotel shooting that shocked the state earlier this year, was reportedly trying to break out of police custody when officers fired. The bullet strike proved fatal, and he was declared dead at the scene.
Senior police officials confirmed that the use of lethal force was deemed necessary after Gogoi resisted and posed a serious threat to the safety of the officers and the public. An inquiry into the circumstances of the shooting has been ordered, and the case will now proceed without the principal suspect.
The incident marks a decisive turn in the high‑profile case, which has been under intense scrutiny from both media and the judiciary. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to bringing all remaining conspirators to justice.
