A 27.29‑carat diamond, one of the largest recent finds in India, was recovered from the Majhgaon mine in Panna, Madhya Pradesh.

The state‑run mining corporation NMDC reported that workers at its Majhgaon opencast mine in Panna district have extracted a 27.29‑carat diamond. The stone, described as a rare, high‑quality gem, was discovered during routine ore extraction and immediately sent for grading and valuation.

Panna, historically known for its diamond deposits, has seen occasional significant finds, but a gem of this size is uncommon in recent years. Experts say that diamonds above 20 carats are exceptionally scarce in India, making this discovery noteworthy for both the mining sector and the local economy.

While the exact market value will be determined after certification, preliminary assessments suggest the diamond could command a multi‑crore rupee price, depending on its clarity, cut and color. The find underscores the continued potential of the region's mineral resources and may boost interest in further exploration activities.

NMDC officials have not disclosed any plans for public display, focusing instead on the technical evaluation and potential sale of the gemstone through authorized channels.
