The kiwi harvested in Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, is slated for a pilot export shipment to Singapore and Dubai, marking the first overseas sale of the fruit.

Ziro, a town in Arunachal Pradesh’s Lower Subansiri district, is preparing to ship its locally grown kiwi fruit to overseas markets for the first time. A pilot export consignment has been cleared for Singapore and Dubai, aiming to gauge international demand and establish supply chains.

State agricultural officials said the trial shipment will involve a limited quantity of fruit harvested this season, adhering to the phytosanitary standards required by the destination countries. The move follows a concerted effort by the state government to diversify farmer incomes and promote high‑value horticultural crops.

If the pilot proves successful, authorities plan to expand the export programme, potentially opening new markets for other produce from the region. The initiative is expected to boost the local economy and provide a model for similar agribusiness ventures in the Northeast.

The export is being coordinated with relevant trade bodies to ensure compliance with customs and quality regulations, with the first containers scheduled for dispatch later this month.
