Young volunteers in Sagar assembled plastic tanks into a boat to showcase the nine forms of Goddess Durga on the Dehar River, attracting pilgrims from across the region.
A group of local youths in Sagar has created a unique floating display on the Dehar River by linking discarded plastic tanks to form a boat. The structure carries representations of the nine manifestations of Goddess Durga, a tradition that has been observed for the past nine years in the town.
The makeshift vessel, assembled over a weekend, was positioned in the middle of the river and illuminated in the evening, allowing devotees to view the Navadurga icons from a distance. Organisers said the use of recycled plastic underscores a growing emphasis on environmental consciousness alongside religious devotion.
Pilgrims from neighboring districts arrived early to witness the spectacle and partake in the customary prayers. The event, organized by community volunteers, is part of an annual celebration that blends cultural heritage with innovative, eco‑friendly practices.
Authorities from the municipal corporation praised the youth initiative for promoting waste reuse while preserving the sanctity of the ritual. The gathering is expected to continue for several days, with additional cultural programs planned along the riverbank.
