The Meteorological Department has shifted the yellow weather alert for the Tricity region to the weekend as cooler air moves in, lowering temperatures across Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a revised advisory on Tuesday, indicating that the yellow weather alert for the Tricity region will now remain in effect through the weekend. The change follows a noticeable dip in daytime temperatures, with forecasts showing highs falling by 2-3 degrees Celsius compared to earlier predictions.
Meteorologists attribute the cooling trend to a north‑westerly wind flow that is bringing drier, cooler air from the Himalayas into the area. While the alert remains in place, the department cautions residents to stay prepared for occasional showers and reduced visibility, especially in the early morning hours.
Local authorities in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula have been instructed to keep public services operational and to disseminate updates through local media and digital platforms. The shift of the alert to the weekend is intended to give residents ample time to plan outdoor activities and travel.
The IMD will continue to monitor weather patterns and may adjust the alert level if conditions change. Citizens are advised to follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of reduced visibility.
