Yavatmal in Maharashtra recorded a temperature of 38.4°C, the highest reading in the state as the region battles a heatwave.
Yavatmal, a district in eastern Maharashtra, reached 38.4°C on the reported day, marking the highest temperature recorded in the state this season, according to the state meteorological department.
The surge forms part of a broader heatwave affecting central and western India, with several districts seeing temperatures above 35°C. Authorities have issued heat advisories, urging residents to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during peak hours.
Local officials in Yavatmal have opened cooling centres and are coordinating with health services to monitor vulnerable groups such as the elderly and laborers. The state government is closely monitoring the situation and has pledged relief measures if conditions worsen.
Meteorological forecasts suggest that high temperatures may persist for the next few days, with low humidity increasing the risk of heat‑related illnesses. Residents are advised to follow safety guidelines issued by the health department.
