A construction worker fell into a 10‑foot pit at a Mohali site after a contractor’s negligence, and emergency help arrived only after an hour.
Mohali, Punjab – A labourer was buried in a pit about 10 feet deep at a construction site after a contractor failed to secure the area, officials said. The incident occurred during routine work when the worker stepped into the unsecured opening and became trapped.
Local emergency services were alerted, but the first rescue team could not reach the site for roughly an hour, prolonging the victim’s exposure to the hazardous conditions.
Police have opened an inquiry into the contractor’s negligence and are examining whether safety protocols were breached. The injured worker was later extricated and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities have urged contractors across the region to adhere strictly to safety guidelines to prevent similar accidents.
