In Jammalamadugu, Andhra Pradesh, heirs of two rival political families are vying for the chairperson position of the local civic body.
The town of Jammalamadugu in Andhra Pradesh is set for a high‑stakes contest as the chairperson post of its civic body comes up for election.
The candidates are the daughters of two prominent local political families who have long dominated the region’s politics. One is the heir of the family that has traditionally held the seat of the Jammalamadugu Municipal Council, while the other comes from a rival clan that has recently gained influence in the district.
The election, scheduled for next month, will decide who will lead the council’s initiatives on infrastructure, sanitation and public services. Both families have mobilised volunteers and local supporters, signalling a fiercely competitive campaign.
Observers say the outcome could reshape local governance and signal the balance of power between the two families for years to come.
