On Saturday, a group of women from Silha, a village in the Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh, gathered outside a liquor shop and threw empty bottles onto the street, creating a blockade. The demonstrators demanded the immediate closure of the shop, citing its negative impact on families in the locality.
The protest escalated when the women announced that they would not accept any financial assistance from the Ladli Bahna scheme, a government welfare program, stating that the presence of the liquor outlet was destroying family welfare.
