A woman in Madhya Pradesh died by suicide after a dispute with her husband over her plan to visit a beauty parlor on Karva Chauth, leaving a note that read, 'Thank you husband, I’m leaving, stay happy.'
Police in Madhya Pradesh received a report of a suicide following a domestic argument between a married couple. The woman had intended to go to a beauty parlor on the occasion of Karva Chauth, a fasting ritual observed by many married women, but her husband objected and prevented her from leaving the house.
According to the investigation, the disagreement escalated, and the woman later took her own life at the residence. A handwritten suicide note was found at the scene, in which she expressed gratitude to her husband and said, "Thank you husband, I’m leaving, stay happy."
The case was reported by the local newspaper Amar Ujala, which cited statements from police officials confirming the presence of the note and the circumstances surrounding the death. Authorities have opened a standard inquiry to determine whether any criminal negligence or foul play was involved, while also offering counseling support to the bereaved family.
The incident highlights the pressures that can arise during cultural festivals when personal autonomy and family expectations clash, prompting calls for greater awareness about mental health and domestic conflict resolution.
