The West Bengal government has mandated electronic tendering across 25 state departments to boost transparency and efficiency in public procurement.

Kolkata, India – The state administration of West Bengal issued a directive that electronic tendering will now be compulsory for twenty‑five of its departments. The move is aimed at streamlining procurement processes, reducing paperwork, and curbing opportunities for corruption.

Officials said the e‑tendering mandate aligns with the broader digital‑governance agenda of the state, which seeks to bring greater transparency and speed to public contracts. Departments will be required to publish all tender notices, receive bids, and award contracts through approved online platforms.

The policy is expected to create a uniform procurement framework, allowing vendors to participate on a level playing field and enabling better monitoring by audit agencies. The government has asked the concerned ministries to adopt the electronic system immediately and to train staff for smooth implementation.

Industry observers view the decision as a positive step toward modernising public spending in the region, while also noting that successful rollout will depend on robust IT infrastructure and consistent compliance across departments.
