A West Bengal native allegedly defrauded a shopkeeper in Mukkola, Thiruvananthapuram, of Rs 2.2 lakh by sending fake GPay screenshots after 11 transactions.

A shopkeeper in the Mukkola area of Thiruvananthapuram has fallen victim to a sophisticated digital fraud scheme involving fake payment confirmations.

The accused, a native of West Bengal, allegedly made 11 separate transactions at the shop. After each transaction, he reportedly showed the shopkeeper screenshots of Google Pay (GPay) indicating that the money had been successfully transferred.

However, the shopkeeper later realized that no actual funds had reached his account. Upon verification, it was confirmed that the screenshots were fabricated, and the total amount defrauded stood at Rs 2.2 lakh.

Local police have taken cognizance of the incident and are investigating the case to trace the suspect. The incident highlights the growing risk of digital fraud through manipulated payment interfaces.
