The West Bengal government has earmarked ₹1,000 crore to refurbish historic Hindu temples across the state, a move aimed at preserving cultural heritage.

The West Bengal Chief Minister announced a dedicated corpus of ₹1,000 crore for the renovation of old Hindu temples in the state. The funding will be used to restore architectural features, repair structural damage, and upgrade facilities for devotees.

The scheme targets temples that have suffered from neglect and weathering over the years. It aims to preserve the state’s rich religious heritage while boosting local tourism and community engagement.

Implementation will be overseen by the Department of Archaeology and Museums, with work scheduled to begin in the next fiscal year. Projects will be selected through a transparent bidding process and monitored for quality and compliance.

The announcement was welcomed by cultural groups and local leaders, who said the initiative will safeguard historic sites and provide employment opportunities for artisans and construction workers.
