The West Bengal cabinet has approved the Defence Research and Development Organisation's proposal to set up a weapons and missile testing facility in Purba Medinipur district.
The state government has given formal approval to the Defence Research and Development Organisation's plan for a dedicated weapons and missile testing range in Purba Medinipur, a coastal district of West Bengal.
The project is intended to bolster India's defence infrastructure by providing a strategic location for trials of advanced armaments, taking advantage of the district's proximity to the Bay of Bengal.
State officials said the range will be developed in close coordination with central defence authorities and will comply with environmental and safety regulations. The initiative is also expected to create local jobs and stimulate related industries.
