In West Bengal, the first phase of the assembly elections saw voter turnout approaching 19% by 9 a.m., according to DD News.
The first phase of West Bengal’s assembly elections recorded a voter turnout of nearly 19% by 9 a.m., as reported by DD News. The figure reflects early voting activity across the state’s polling stations.
Election officials noted that the turnout remains below the average seen in previous state elections, where participation typically hovers around 30% to 40% in the early hours.
Political analysts suggest that the low early turnout may be influenced by factors such as weather, voter fatigue, and the ongoing COVID‑19 situation, which has prompted many voters to delay casting their ballots.
The Election Commission will continue to monitor voter participation throughout the day, with final counts expected once polling concludes at 6 p.m. The results will be crucial for parties seeking to gauge public sentiment ahead of the full election schedule.
