A wall gave way at the Rama Laxminarayan Convention Hall in Mangaluru during a college student‑union meeting on Saturday, injuring five students, one of whom remains in critical condition.
A section of a wall collapsed at the Rama Laxminarayan Convention Hall in Mangaluru on Saturday while a gathering of college student‑union office‑bearers was in progress. The sudden failure of the structure caused panic among the attendees and resulted in injuries to five young men.
Among the injured, 16‑year‑old Mohammed Shamaj was rushed to a nearby hospital and is currently in the intensive care unit in a critical condition. The other four students – Mohammed Shanan Ahmed, Haneef, Dawood Farsin Ahmed and Mohammed Shakeel Hussain – sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving treatment at the same facility.
Emergency services arrived promptly, and the hall was evacuated as a precaution. Local authorities have launched an inquiry to determine the cause of the collapse and to assess any lapses in safety compliance at the venue.
College officials expressed deep concern over the incident and promised full cooperation with the investigation. They also announced that counseling services would be made available to the affected students and their families.
