Polling has started in the first phase of Rajasthan’s Panch‑Sarpanch elections, covering 3,314 gram panchayats in 16 districts, with over 8.5 million voters casting ballots for more than 32,000 sarpanch and ward‑panch seats.
The Election Commission of India has opened polling for the first phase of Rajasthan’s Panch‑Sarpanch elections. The phase encompasses 16 districts and 3,314 gram panchayats, where voters will elect sarpanches and ward panchs for more than 32,000 seats.
According to the commission’s schedule, voting will continue throughout the day, allowing an estimated 8.5 million registered electors to cast their votes. The turnout is being closely watched as it reflects grassroots political engagement ahead of the full election cycle.
The election is a key component of the state’s local‑self‑government structure, determining leadership at the village level for the next five years. Officials have deployed security personnel and polling staff to ensure a smooth process across rural polling stations.
Election observers noted that the extensive voter list and the large number of contested posts underscore the scale of democratic participation in Rajasthan’s rural areas. The results of this phase will be announced after counting, which is slated for the coming days.
