The counting of votes for the 2026 Nandigram assembly seat, where BJP and Congress are neck‑to‑neck, starts today.
The Election Commission has begun counting votes for the 2026 West Bengal assembly constituency of Nandigram, a seat that has attracted intense attention as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress are locked in a close battle.
Nandigram, located in the Purba Medinipur district, saw a high voter turnout in the February polling, and the result will influence the balance of power in the state assembly.
Counting is being carried out at designated centres under electronic voting machine (EVM) supervision, with officials expecting the first figures to be announced by late evening.
Political analysts note that a win for either party could reshape coalition dynamics ahead of the next state elections, while local leaders have urged calm and respect for the democratic process.
