Local official Viriato has publicly condemned the prolonged delay in acquiring a CT scan machine for Ponda Hospital, calling it a setback for patient care.
Viriato, a senior official in the region, voiced strong criticism on Tuesday over the extended lag in procuring a computed tomography (CT) scanner for Ponda Hospital. He described the drawn‑out process as unacceptable and detrimental to the community's health needs.
The absence of a functional CT scanner forces the hospital to refer patients to distant facilities for advanced imaging, causing delays in diagnosis and treatment. Health workers at the hospital have repeatedly highlighted the urgency of the equipment, noting that many cases could be managed locally if the scanner were available.
Viriato urged the responsible authorities to accelerate the procurement, insisting on greater transparency and adherence to timelines. He warned that continued postponement could erode public confidence in the healthcare system.
As of now, the procurement department has not issued a detailed response, and the hospital continues to operate without the critical imaging tool.
