Heavy rains blocked the road in Rauli village, Rewa, prompting locals to place a dead body on a drum and float it across the water to reach the family home.
Heavy monsoon rains have inundated parts of Rauli village in Rewa district, cutting off the main road with a fast‑moving water channel. Residents said the floodwaters rose suddenly, making it impossible to reach homes on the opposite bank.
In the absence of official assistance, villagers improvised a makeshift conveyance: they secured a large metal drum, placed the deceased relative’s body on it, and guided the drum across the water to the family’s house. The unusual method was captured in photographs that quickly spread on social media.
The villagers allege that representatives of the local panchayat refused to provide any help, forcing them to resort to the drum. They have lodged complaints with district officials, demanding a probe into the panchayat’s alleged neglect and a swift response to the flood‑related hardships.
District administration officials said they are aware of the incident and have dispatched relief teams to assess the situation. They promised to investigate the allegations against the panchayat and to improve emergency response mechanisms in flood‑prone areas of Rewa.
