A forest department team sent to stop illegal timber smuggling in Muangr, Bihar, was attacked by local villagers who seized a timber‑laden tractor and fled. An FIR has been lodged against 29 alleged participants.

Forest officials arrived in the Dharhara area of Muangr, Bihar, to intercept a suspected illegal timber operation. Upon reaching the site, a sizeable group of villagers confronted the team, physically assaulting the officers and demanding the release of a tractor loaded with timber.

The crowd succeeded in breaking away the tractor from the forest department's control and drove it away from the scene. Police and forest personnel were forced to retreat as the mob dispersed, taking the vehicle with them.

Local law enforcement registered a First Information Report (FIR) naming 29 individuals alleged to have participated in the assault and theft. The FIR cites charges of violence against public servants, theft of government property and obstruction of official duties.

Authorities have announced a manhunt for the accused and have urged witnesses to come forward. The incident underscores growing tensions in rural Bihar over timber smuggling and the challenges faced by forest officials in enforcing conservation laws.
