From tonight, the Vikramshila Setu in Bihar will be closed to all traffic for three months, with a complimentary boat service introduced to ferry passengers across the Ganges.
The state government announced that Vikramshila Setu, the key river crossing near Bhagalpur, will be placed under a "no entry" restriction starting tonight. The closure, slated to last for three months, is intended to facilitate extensive repair work on the bridge structure.
To mitigate the impact on daily commuters, authorities have arranged a free boat service that will operate across the Ganges, linking the two banks of the river. The service is expected to run from early morning until late evening, with multiple trips scheduled each hour.
Transport officials have urged motorists to seek alternative routes and have assured that the temporary suspension will improve safety and extend the bridge's lifespan. The free ferry is being managed by the Bihar State Water Transport Department, which will monitor passenger flow and maintain regular schedules throughout the repair period.
