Vijay Sarkar has cancelled the waiver that excluded law and order matters from the Right to Information Act after facing criticism.
Vijay Sarkar announced the withdrawal of the RTI waiver that had kept law and order subjects outside the ambit of the Right to Information Act. The decision came after a wave of criticism from activists, journalists and citizens who argued that the waiver undermined transparency.
The waiver had previously allowed police and security-related information to be withheld from public scrutiny under the RTI framework. Its removal brings such matters back under the purview of the Act, enabling citizens to seek information about policing, law enforcement and related administrative actions.
Officials confirmed that the waiver has been rescinded with immediate effect, and all concerned departments are required to comply with the revised provisions. The move is being viewed as a response to the public demand for greater accountability in governance.
