Jewel Thief, released in 1967, was a musical thriller starring Shammi Kapoor and Vyjayanthimala, directed by Vijay Anand. The film’s production was initially smooth, but tensions rose when Vyjayanthimala expressed dissatisfaction with certain scenes and the director’s approach. The disagreement escalated into a public feud, with Anand threatening to replace her if she did not comply with his vision. Production came to a halt for several weeks, jeopardising the release schedule. After negotiations and a compromise on creative differences, Vyjayanthimala agreed to continue, and the film went on to become a commercial success.
