Teachers who have served for 28 years are protesting the requirement to clear the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and the denial of benefits for their prior service.

Bhopal – A group of teachers who have been in the profession for 28 years are demanding that they be brought under the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) framework without losing the benefits accrued during their earlier service. The educators argue that the new requirement treats them as unqualified, despite their long-standing experience in teaching doctors, engineers and other professionals.

The teachers' protest has centered on the denial of service‑related perks such as pension calculations and seniority benefits that were previously guaranteed. They contend that the policy change unfairly penalises veteran educators and could set a precedent for other states.

Education officials have said the TET is a statutory requirement for all teachers, but have not yet clarified how the transition will affect those with extensive prior service. The matter is now being debated in the state education department, with teachers urging a swift resolution.

The movement has drawn attention from teachers' unions across Madhya Pradesh, who fear similar actions could be taken against other long‑serving staff. Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming weeks.
