Bihar police have detained Varun Kumar in Khagariya after he used a MetroMonial site to pose as an assistant section officer of the Patna Secretariat and defrauded several women, including a teacher, for ₹3 lakh.
Bihar police arrested Varun Kumar in the town of Khagariya after a sting operation uncovered his fraudulent activities. Kumar had been using a MetroMonial website to contact women, presenting himself as an assistant section officer of the Patna Secretariat.
According to investigators, he lured several women into a marriage proposal scheme, promising them a lucrative partnership. The most recent victim was a teacher who was persuaded to transfer ₹3 lakh to Kumar’s account.
Kumar’s deception extended beyond this single case; police say he had contact with numerous women across the state. The arrest was made following a tip from a local resident who reported suspicious online activity.
The Khagariya police station has taken custody of Kumar and is preparing charges under the Indian Penal Code for fraud and impersonation. He is expected to appear before the court in Patna within the next few days.
