The Vande Bharat Express made its third live‑donor heart transport, moving the organ from Surat to Ahmedabad, underscoring the train’s role in time‑critical medical logistics.
The Vande Bharat Express completed its third mission of transporting a live donor heart, carrying the organ from Surat to Ahmedabad. Health officials said the rapid rail link was chosen to ensure the heart reached the transplant team within the narrow viability window.
The operation involved close coordination between the donor hospital in Surat, the transplant centre in Ahmedabad and railway authorities, who cleared a dedicated carriage for the organ. The high‑speed train, capable of maintaining speeds above 150 km/h, reduced transit time compared with road transport.
Medical experts highlighted that using the Vande Bharat service demonstrates a growing model for time‑sensitive organ transfers across the state, potentially saving more lives as the network expands.
