Uttarakhand’s Hill Towns to Get Their First Big‑Screen Cinemas

Uttarakhand’s mountainous districts are set to welcome permanent big‑screen cinema halls, a development long awaited by residents of its hill towns. The initiative marks the first time that these remote locales will have access to a full‑scale movie‑going experience without travelling to larger cities.
Local officials say the new screens will be equipped with modern projection and sound systems, matching standards of urban multiplexes. By situating the facilities within existing community centres, the project aims to integrate entertainment with local cultural activities.
The introduction of big‑screen cinemas is expected to boost tourism, provide new employment opportunities, and give young audiences exposure to contemporary Indian and international films. Authorities anticipate that the venues will become social hubs, fostering community interaction in the otherwise isolated hill regions.
