The Uttarakhand government announced plans to develop dedicated spiritual and cultural tourism circuits, aiming to boost visitor numbers and local economies.
The state tourism minister said Uttarakhand will roll out a series of specially designed spiritual and cultural tourism circuits later this year. The initiative seeks to package the region's numerous pilgrimage sites, heritage monuments and traditional art forms into coherent travel routes that appeal to both domestic and international tourists.
The proposed circuits will link iconic destinations such as the Char Dham shrines, the ancient temples of Garhwal, the folk art villages of Kumaon and the historic forts along the Himalayan foothills. Each route will be supported by upgraded signage, visitor centres and curated experiences that showcase local customs and cuisine.
Officials expect the new circuits to generate a measurable rise in tourist footfall, creating jobs and additional revenue for communities along the paths. Funding for the project is slated to come from the state tourism budget, with possible assistance from central schemes focused on heritage promotion.
The ministry also plans a coordinated marketing campaign, leveraging digital platforms and partnerships with travel operators to raise awareness of Uttarakhand's spiritual and cultural offerings ahead of the upcoming peak season.
