The Uttarakhand government has announced a plan to map one hundred new trekking routes to boost adventure tourism in the state.

The tourism department of Uttarakhand said it will identify and digitally map 100 new trekking routes across the state's mountainous terrain. The move is aimed at diversifying adventure tourism offerings and providing clear, safe pathways for trekkers. Officials indicated that the mapping will use geographic information system (GIS) technology and will involve forest officials and local communities to ensure environmental sustainability. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to attract domestic and international visitors to lesser‑known hill regions while promoting responsible trekking practices. Completion of the first phase is expected within the next year, after which the routes will be promoted through official tourism portals and guidebooks.
