Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that the state government will develop two dedicated literary villages to support writers in Uttarakhand.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami disclosed that Uttarakhand will set up two literary villages aimed at providing writers with dedicated spaces for creation and collaboration. The initiative, unveiled during a press conference, is part of the government's broader effort to nurture cultural talent in the hills.
The proposed villages will feature residential units, work‑studios, libraries and digital facilities, allowing authors, poets and scholars to live and work in a supportive environment. Officials said the sites will be selected based on accessibility and proximity to existing cultural hubs.
Funding for the project will come from the state’s cultural development budget, with construction slated to begin early next year. The government expects the villages to boost literary output, attract literary festivals and create employment opportunities for local artisans.
Stakeholders, including writers' associations, have welcomed the move, calling it a long‑awaited boost for the region’s literary scene. The administration plans to monitor progress through a dedicated task force and will release further details as the plan advances.
