The recent Special Incremental Revision (SIR) exercise in Uttarakhand eliminated about nine lakh duplicate or invalid entries, bringing the state's total registered voters to 71.59 lakh.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) completed a Special Incremental Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in Uttarakhand earlier this month. The exercise, aimed at cleaning up outdated, duplicate or ineligible entries, resulted in the deletion of roughly nine lakh names from the state's voter list.
Following the deletions, the updated roll now records 71.59 lakh eligible voters across Uttarakhand's 13 districts. The reduction reflects the Commission's ongoing effort to ensure the accuracy of the electoral database ahead of upcoming state and national elections.
Officials said the SIR process involved cross‑checking existing records with recent demographic data, death certificates and migration information. Voters whose names were removed have been advised to verify their status and, if necessary, submit fresh applications for inclusion.
The revised figures will be used for the next scheduled polls, and the ECI has urged citizens to keep their details up to date to avoid disenfranchisement.
