Uttarakhand police announced today that they have successfully busted a SIM box gateway operating in the state, a device commonly used to route international calls through local numbers to evade tariffs and regulatory oversight.

The raid, carried out by the state’s cybercrime and telecom units, resulted in the seizure of the equipment along with related hardware and documentation that indicated a structured network facilitating illegal voice traffic.

Authorities also arrested a male suspect believed to have connections with individuals in Bangladesh. Investigators say the man was part of a broader cross‑border operation that exploited the SIM box technology to generate revenue from unauthorized call routing. The case is being forwarded to higher courts for further prosecution, and officials said they will continue monitoring similar illicit telecom activities in the region.
