Heavy rain and hail in Uttarakhand today caused extensive damage to roads, houses and crops, prompting emergency alerts from local authorities.
Heavy rain and hail fell across Uttarakhand on Tuesday, leading to widespread damage in several districts. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a red alert for the state, urging residents to stay indoors and avoid low-lying areas.
Roads in the Garhwal and Kumaon regions were flooded, with several stretches becoming impassable. Local officials reported that dozens of houses suffered roof damage, and several agricultural fields were washed away.
The Uttarakhand Police Department has set up emergency response teams to clear debris and restore essential services. Residents are advised to monitor local news for updates on road closures and water levels.
The state government has requested additional resources from the central government to assist in relief operations. No casualties have been reported yet, but authorities warn that the weather could worsen later in the week.
