Several rural families in Uttarakhand have been allotted permanent houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana‑Gramin, the government announced.

The state government of Uttarakhand, in coordination with the central Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, has handed over pucca (permanent) houses to a number of eligible rural families under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana‑Gramin (PMAY‑G). The allocation is part of the nationwide effort to provide safe, durable housing to the rural poor.

Beneficiaries were selected based on the scheme’s eligibility criteria, which consider income limits, land ownership status and the lack of a structurally sound dwelling. The newly constructed houses meet the prescribed standards for size, structural safety and basic amenities.

Officials said the distribution will improve living conditions for the families and contribute to the broader goal of eliminating rural homelessness by 2025. Construction work for the houses was overseen by local contractors under the supervision of the state’s housing department.

The rollout in Uttarakhand follows similar initiatives in other states, reflecting the central government's commitment to the housing mission. Further phases of the programme are expected to continue as more funds become available.
