Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that his government will take stringent measures against hoarding of essential commodities across Uttarakhand.

Earlier today, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami issued a directive to clamp down on the hoarding of essential commodities in the state. The order, conveyed through a press statement, signals the government's intent to curb artificial scarcity and protect consumers.
The CM highlighted rising concerns that hoarding could trigger price spikes and disrupt the supply chain of items such as wheat, rice, edible oil and medicines. He urged market dealers and traders to maintain transparent stock levels.
To enforce the directive, the administration will empower the state food and civil supplies department, along with police, to conduct surprise inspections and seize illegally stored goods. Violators are expected to face heavy fines and possible prosecution under the Essential Commodities Act.
Officials said a monitoring cell will be set up to track inventory movements and that the public can report suspected hoarding through a dedicated helpline. The government hopes the swift action will stabilize market prices and ensure equitable access for all citizens.
