The chief minister of Uttarakhand officially opened a new gaushala in the town of Khatima. The shelter, built at an estimated cost of ₹7.23 crore, is designed to provide safe accommodation for stray, abandoned and senior cattle.
State officials said the facility will include separate enclosures, feeding areas and veterinary care units to ensure the health and well‑being of the animals. The project reflects the government's ongoing commitment to animal welfare and to supporting the dairy sector in the region.
The inauguration was attended by local officials and community representatives, who praised the initiative as a step toward better management of stray cattle and a boost for rural livelihoods.
