Uttarakhand CM Halts Tree Felling on Doon‑Rishikesh Road, Calls for Stakeholder Talks

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has suspended the felling of trees along the Doon‑Rishikesh road widening project, urging consultations with stakeholders before proceeding.

The state government had approved a plan to widen the Doon‑Rishikesh highway, a move that required cutting down several hundred trees along the route.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that the felling of trees would be halted pending a review of the environmental impact and the availability of alternative routes.

Dhami said the government would convene a meeting with local residents, environmental groups, and road‑engineering experts to discuss the project’s feasibility and to explore less disruptive options.

The decision comes amid growing concerns over deforestation in the Doon valley and the potential impact on the region’s biodiversity and tourism economy.
