The Uttarakhand state cabinet gave the green light to a fast‑track road repair initiative aimed at improving connectivity across the hilly region.
Dehradun, Aug 25 (HT) – The Uttarakhand cabinet formally approved a comprehensive road‑repair push today, directing the Public Works Department to prioritize the refurbishment of key arterial routes that have suffered from landslides and weather‑related damage.
The resolution calls for the allocation of additional funds in the 2024‑25 budget, with an emphasis on using modern engineering techniques and local labour to expedite work while ensuring safety standards.
State officials said the initiative will focus first on the Chamoli‑Almora stretch, the Haridwar‑Rishikesh corridor and several remote mountain passes that are vital for tourism and daily commutes.
The cabinet also instructed the department to submit monthly progress reports to the chief minister’s office, aiming for transparent monitoring and timely completion before the monsoon season.
Stakeholders, including transport unions and local businesses, welcomed the decision, noting that improved road conditions are expected to boost trade, tourism and emergency response capabilities in the state.
