The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that the monthly stipend for MBBS and BDS interns will be increased to Rs 25,000, up from the previous amount.

The state government of Uttar Pradesh has approved a hike in the monthly allowance for medical (MBBS) and dental (BDS) interns, setting the new stipend at Rs 25,000. The decision, announced by the health department, effectively doubles the amount previously paid to interns.
Earlier, interns received roughly Rs 12,500 per month, a figure that many trainees and student bodies had criticised as insufficient given the workload and living costs in major teaching hospitals.
Officials said the increase is intended to improve morale among young doctors, encourage retention in public hospitals, and bring the allowance in line with standards in other states. The revised stipend will be disbursed from the start of the next academic session across all government‑run medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh.
The move is expected to have a modest impact on the state’s health‑care budget, but authorities consider it a necessary investment in the training of future physicians.
