Uttar Pradesh raises honorarium and offers Rs 5 lakh health cover to Anganwadi workers

The state government of Uttar Pradesh has approved a hike in the daily honorarium paid to Anganwadi workers and their helpers, though the exact revised amount has not been disclosed publicly. In addition, a health insurance scheme providing coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per beneficiary will be extended to all Anganwadi staff across the state. The move is part of a broader effort to improve the welfare and financial security of frontline workers involved in the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) programme. Officials said the enhanced benefits aim to attract and retain staff in rural and urban anganwadi centres, which play a critical role in early childhood care, nutrition and health monitoring. The announcement was reported by The Indian Express and is expected to be implemented in the upcoming financial year.
