The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an advisory indicating that the monsoon trough is receding faster than usual across the central and northern belt. As a result, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are expected to experience a secondary heat wave, often termed a ‘second summer’, within weeks of the monsoon’s withdrawal.
Temperature forecasts for the three states show daytime highs climbing to 42‑45°C in the coming days, with humidity levels dropping sharply. The IMD cautions that prolonged exposure to such conditions could exacerbate heat‑related health risks, especially for vulnerable populations.
Agricultural experts warn that the unexpected heat surge may stress crops already affected by delayed rains, potentially impacting wheat and mustard yields. Authorities in the affected states have been instructed to activate heat‑action plans, including setting up cooling centres and issuing public advisories on hydration and sun protection.
